Yes! This fish requires a 12-14 wt!

Most people in the PNW aren't aware that these solid muscle torpedo's reside for several months just off the Oregon and Washington coast. It doesn't require a trip to Mexico to utilize your big saltwater gear, just a short jaunt out west. Most of the fish caught are between 15 and 25 pounds with a few slightly smaller and some that are bigger. Either end of the scale, these fish put up a fight that rivals any fish their size in the ocean.

These trips begin by arriving at a decent hour in the evening in Westport for a late dinner and final prep for boarding the boat. We board at 10pm the evening of departure, sleep on the boat while we cruise out about 60-80 miles.

When we awaken at dawn, we are immediately ready to begin hitting the water with teasers and then live bait to bring the fish to the surface.

We fish until dark that day and then begin our return to port, usually arriving around 2 am. That evening, angler may sleep on the boat again or hit the road for home immediately.

These trips are very unique and therefore, choosing the right captain for your trip is crucial. This a volatile time of year on the oceans and may captains will say, "Oh yeah, we do fly fishing!" when in reality they just want/need to fill their boat and will basically have you live bait or jig fishing nearly the entire time. Don't get caught in this situation, not fun.

We have been doing a lot of research on various fly captains in the region and here are the ports we can offer quality trips out of currently:

Warrenton, Oregon
Charleston, Oregon
Astoria, Oregon

Pricing varies from captain to captain and we do have some smaller boats we work with here as well but most are 40 feet +, host a goup of 4-6 fly anglers at a time and are captained by fly anglers.
