Atlantic Salmon, Norway

Norway, the land of fjords and mountains, trolls and Norse legends, midnight sun and luminous summer nights and some of the best and most exciting game fishing opportunities on Earth. Atlantic salmon, arctic char, brown trout, grayling and sea-trout - all there in abundance.
To some anglers, Norway might seem a fair distance away while for others it might be a pilgrimage. The opportunity to follow in the footsteps of many great anglers from all over the world who have navigated the fiords and trudged the banks since the early 19th century in pursuit of big salmon.
Game fish in Norwegian rivers and lakes are plentiful. The productivity of the rivers and lakes is high and all anglers are welcome to share in this abundance. A combination of wilderness above the Arctic Circle, pine covered valleys of the central region and the outstanding beauty of the fjords and mountainous western and southern regions, provides the setting for more than 400 productive salmon rivers.
Norwegian rivers are the foremost spawning ground for Atlantic salmon. The rivers of the Arctic and central regions have had huge runs of salmon in the last few years with the majority being grilse and medium size salmon. A satisfactory number of fish are also caught in the 30 to 40 pound range. We highly recommend the use of spey rods here in Norway. For salmon fly fishing, double handed rods in the 13’ – 16’ range are the norm on large and medium rivers. A good and varied selection of flies and tubes are needed. Small, medium and large to suit different water levels and conditions.

Pure fresh air, crystal clear water, tranquility and space are what most people notice when they visit the remote areas of Norway. These are also what most Norwegians treasure most in life and they are proud to share them with any visitor. Enjoy unspoiled nature far from the hustle and bustle of mainland Europe and the world’s major cities!
The journey today is swift and comfortable. Any European can leave home in the morning and by evening be fishing above the Arctic Circle – thanks to our cooperation with Scandinavian Airlines. People from further afield can fly to any major European destination and onwards to Norway in a matter of hours. Most major European cities have airline connections with Oslo and Bergen. Stavanger and Trondheim also have international airports. International flights to Norway from other continents normally go via Copenhagen. There are also ferry links from Denmark, Sweden, Great Britain, Iceland and the Faroe Islands to the ports of Bergen, Kristiansand, Larvik and Stavanger.
Scandinavian citizens enter Norway freely without a passport. Citizens of the US, Canada, Ireland, UK, Australia and New Zealand do not require a visa for stays of less than three months. The same is true for EU countries, most of Latin America and most Commonwealth countries.
