Campeche, Mexico--Baby Tarpon!!
Mexico Photo Journal

Campeche has an extraordinary history. Its Mayan culture in the Edzna and Calakmul (Kalakmul) areas, represent the magic and mystery of an amazing civilization. Campeche has 400,000 residents and most of the population derive their origins from the mayan civilization.
The culture is rich in tradition, handicrafts, regional seafood, folklore, military architecture, mayan sites and much more preserving the roots of the spanish conquest. The old walled city has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and the mayan city of Calakmul, a 5 hour drive south from the capital, has been recognized as well. While Campeche is located on the Gulf shore, it is not considered to be a beach destination, in fact there are virtually no public beaches. The sea floor is mostly shallow and abundant with turtle sea grass, making white sand beaches not easily found.
A clean and safe city, Campechano hospitality makes it a unique venue in the southern Mexico. Campeche is one of the safest places in mexico with an extremely low crime rate, inviting you to walk and tour the city's downtown streets and shops safely.
Campeche has 100 kilometers of mangroves starting near the capital city and extending to the border with the state of Yucatán. The mangrove area we have is the perfect habitat for many different species of fish besides tarpon such as snook, snapper, barracuda and the most appreciated trophy of all, the BABY TARPON!

Cast smaller rods, have more shots at fish and watch the same tail walking acrobatics of large tarpon in a more relaxed atmosphere. Most anglers who have tangled with big tarpon will agree that smaller tarpon will give you all the excitement of large ones, without the sore arms and the ability to land 10 or more a day.
At the present time, accomodation for anglers are at the most conveniently located hotel, just a few steps from where the guides are met each morning. It is quite comfortable and just a 5 min walk from downtown. Clean rooms and bathrooms, a small pool and several room choices available from single rooms to suites.
With the recent popularity of the region, many other guides and services have popped up in the area. We work closely withthe most professional and reliable guide service in Campeche.
