On the Sea of Cortez side of the sun-drenched southern Baja, where the legendary peninsula juts into the tropical zones, the palm-thatched, king-sized guest rooms and "main house" of Rancho Leonero punctuate the broad green lawns of a tropical clearing of a 350-acre corner of "Old Baja", nose-to-nose with the pristine blue sea.

A fishing and sportsman's paradise, where coconut palms bend gracefully over two miles of dazzling unspoiled beaches, it's a place like no other. Set well apart from other "East Cape" hotels, this handsomely tropical flower-studded resort stands in intimate relationship with the sea itself. Cradled by the mythical Laguna Mountains, it provides a comfortable and friendly sanctuary for those who want to truly experience the Cortez.

Not only do 1,000-pound black and blue marlin prowl these waters, but striped marlin, sailfish, dorado, huge yellowfin tuna, yellowtail, wahoo, grouper, snapper, roosterfish and dozens of incidentals swarm over undersea canyons and dropoffs within a mile of shore. Surf fishing along the famous "double reef" directly in front of the ranch is spectacular.

If big game fishing is what you are after, Rancho Leonero sports a complete fleet of inexpensive pangas (Mexican skiffs), larger center console "super pangas", and roomy sportfishers up to 40 feet, all at affordable prices, all with superlative local guides who know how to put you on the fish.

Once the fishing day is done on your boat of choice, there is usually plenty of time for more fishing around the lodge. Stroll or sea-kayak up and down the extensive beach looking for rooster banging bait on the back of breakers or rent ATV's and utilize their speed to explore the 20 plus miles of beach for similar activity.

If at the end of the fishing day, more fishing is not on your mind, try snorkeling or scuba trips to explore the depths, play a round of golf at one of the courses near Los Cabos, lift weights in the ocean view training room or get a message.

For those that are aware of the temperatures that can occur in Baja, you will be happy to know that all rooms at the resort are air conditioned. For those who are not aware, it gets hot! With a variety of rooms available from a standard room with 2 queen beds and bathroom to the deluxe ocean-view bungalows with tons of space, appropriately decorated, private patios over-looking the Sea of Cortez.

Breakfast is served from 6:30 to 9am in our dining room. The fare is typically American, featuring eggs, bacon, fresh tropical fruits & juices, cereals, toast, pancakes, etc. Traditional Mexican items are also available, including homemade tortillas, frijoles, mexican-style eggs, machaca and chorizo.

For those guests not fishing/diving or on excursions, lunch is served family-style in our dining room from 12:30 to 1:30pm. Lunches are generally Mexican-flavored, including homemade soups, salads, and beef, chicken or fish entrees prepared according to regional recipes. For those guests out fishing or on other adventures, we will prepare box lunches [generally either sandwiches or burritos, your choice] for the trip. For guests arriving at the hotel after the lunch hour, we can always prepare sandwiches.

Dinner is served family-style from 7 to 8:30pm at our outside dining patio. Dinners are mostly American style, including entrees such as barbequed breast of chicken, steaks, and our famous Saturday night barbequed rib buffet. Fresh fish is also offered daily [subject to availability]. Fresh salads and homemade desserts top the fare.
