Coquille River, Oregon

The Coquille is one of many smaller, lesser known rivers in the southwestern portion of Oregon where the Rogue and Umpqua Rivers overshadow their ability to turn out steelhead.
The Coquille and its forks are primarily a winter run steelhead fishery and while all of these have steelhead in them the South Fork is the most accessible one by road and the only one safe enough to float.
While crowded at times, fly anglers can find room of their own and while most of the fish are of hatchery origin, there is a mix of wild fish as well. Size range is from 8-15 pounds or larger and due to its proximity to the ocean, these fish fight, no matter where they were born.
