Andrew Grillos,
Professional Fly Fishing Guide

"Fishing's boring." Andrew Grillos, age 9.

"Fly-fishing is the best thing ever! Let me tell you all about it!" Andrew Grillos age 10.

I guess I began my obsession with fly fishing around age ten. As a kid I always thought that fishing meant throwing Powerbait and a bobber out there and patiently waiting for that ever-elusive "bite." At age 10 I had the desire to try fly-fishing so my step-dad and I picked up fly-rods from the local sporting goods store and we gave it a go. It's amazing how one day of tangling up the line, hooking the bushes, and not having a clue how to catch a fish can be so life changing. As challenging as learning to fly-fish on our own was, I believe that there's one single reason that has kept me hooked on fly-fishing for nearly 20 years. Fly-fishing is fun. That's it.
I'd like to think I appreciate how good I've got it being a fly-fishing guide. I've got a pretty sweet office. By age 28 I've been guiding for a decade and fly-fishing has taken me around the world and introduced me to some incredible people. I've caught a Kanektok King on a swung fly. I've seen the biggest trout of my life spooked by a bad cast in Chile. I've float fished a river in Argentina that no one's ever floated or fished before. New Zealand is just plain incredible. I've even drank Tecates with Brian O'Keefe! No matter where I've been I always try to stay true to what keeps me fishing, it's fun.
I've guided anglers from all walks of life, and no matter what, I work hard to show anglers of all skill levels how enjoyable a day on the water should be. I believe that enjoying a day in the outdoors is what it's all about and catching some fish is always a nice bonus!

Hey Dave,

Thanks to both you and Andrew for accommodating with such late notice. I had a great time. The fish and stream amusement to size ratio was off the charts ... I think that is a legit Quantitative measure for a day on the water ;)  ... Small and aggressive, totally forgiving to the presentation handicapped angler, and willing to attack anything of any color, size, shape. Actually hilarious fishing for some reason. We couldn't stop laughing at, potentially with, these fish and yet loving the experience, setting and company.

You have definitely found a great guide in Andrew and no doubt he will create some great experiences for you and your clients. I have to assume he will only add to the positive vibe you seem to have successfully built at emerald waters and the Seattle fishing community as a whole will most certainly benefit from his arrival to the area.
