Alex Collier
Professional Fly Fishing Guide

My first exposure to fly fishing came from my family’s habit of watching ESPN Outdoors on Saturday mornings before breakfast.  I grew up spin fishing for largemouth bass, bluegill, and catfish in North Carolina, but quickly realized that my spin gear wouldn’t cut it on the trout rivers that surrounded my college in the mountains of North Carolina.  After receiving a Sage rod and reel for Christmas I began to teach myself how to cast and fish in this new style—and proceeded to spend many days early on pulling my flies and leaders out from rhododendron plants.  The next three years of college were spent chasing trout in the small streams of the Appalachian Mountains.

When I arrived in the Pacific Northwest in September of 2005 I was amazed at the variety of water types and fish species that exist here.  Even though I have since gotten my bearings on the salt and large rivers here, my passion is still chasing trout in the creeks, streams, and lakes of the Cascades and beyond.  This is due in large part to the beauty and tranquility of the landscapes surrounding the waters trout call home.

It is this passion and love of the outdoors—and not just the fish—that I hope to share with the people I fish with.  This passion can often lead to the catching of a fish being a welcomed bonus to the day.
