Nimmo Bay Resort , British Columbia

Nimmo Bay Resort lies in a small salt-water bay at the head of McKenzie Sound. Cedar, spruce, balsam and hemlock trees surround the resort and keep our air pure, sweet, and pollution free. We have no neighbours within ten miles. Our closest neighbour is a small and isolated community that is uninhabited for most of the year. Access to Nimmo Bay is restricted to boat, float plane or helicopter.
Nimmo Bay Resort is a luxurious high-end helicopter fly-fishing and helicopter adventure destination nestled at the foot of Mount Stevens along the Great Bear Rainforest coastline in British Columbia, Canada.
For over 26 years, the Murray family has specialized in world class hospitality. Their tailor made helicopter adventures will exceed your highest expectations. Listen to your favorite music in your helicopter, enjoy your favorite flavor of house-made ice cream, and request your favorite song from the evening’s entertainment. Every aspect of your trip is tailored to your personal request.
Heli-Fishing is for anyone who wants to participate in the most unbelievable sport fishing adventure of a lifetime. No longer is anyone "retired" from fishing. Mountains are mere hurdles for your magic carpet. You can fly out of the rain, and, if the bite goes off, you simply move to another paradise, more beautiful and productive than the one you just left. Each river is alive with fish and there are enough rivers to choose from as your pilot/guide takes you throughout 30,000 square miles, from sea level through seven thousand feet. Depending on anglers skill, each day can see you catching upwards of 30 fish.
Lunch takes on a new meaning when you're on top of the world in a restaurant that's never crowded. And a rest on the bank of a wilderness river will be well deserved. All of a sudden the urgency is gone, as a mellow Nimmo moment envelopes you. Then, in an instant, you're back streamside fighting Trout, Coho, Chinook, Chum or Pink Salmon. At the end of your day, the fish is the ultimate winner, as this fishery is 100% catch and release. You are also a winner, as the memory and the pictures live to tell and retell the tale. Cutthroat, Rainbow and Dolly Varden play a large part in nature's annual pageant.
Nimmo Bay’s Steelhead fishery is stellar. We have at our fingertips, six major classified waters of the B.C. central coast, plus many remote rivers of northern Vancouver Island. Here, we angle for Steelhead, which weigh in at 10 to 30 pounds. Your helicopter accompanies you all day, throughout this Angling Odyssey.
The fishery is Catch and Release using barbless hooks. Fly cast, spin or drift fishing are the preferred methods to catch these mystical fish. Care and stealth must be taken while angling for Steelhead. Every effort must be taken to approach quietly and cast perfectly to hook up with these chrome beauties. For fly fishers, eight weight rods using reels lined with floating line / sink tip is recommended - 250 to 300 yds. of backing behind the fly line is necessary. 12 lb. test spin line or drift line should be used for anglers using this style of gear. Bring your fly rod and reel or drifting gear. We have the necessary spinning gear if this is your preferred method of angling. Fly fishing gear is also available at the lodge for those wishing to travel light. Leave your waders and boots at home. River gear and all-weather gear are provided for your comfort. Terminal tackle is available at the resort but you can bring your own tried and tested flies and lures.
Each trip is from Thursday to Tuesday. You arrive Thursday night in time for a coastal feast, fish for the next four days, and depart early Tuesday morning for your travel day home. Guests are responsible for transportation to Port Hardy and return. Private jets may fly direct to Port Hardy (YZT) landing by 5:30PM and we bring you by helicopter to Nimmo Bay. Extras are taxes, specialty alcohol, fishign licenses, and gratuities.
There are only 6 “Wild” Steelhead Adventures available. Fishing commences April 19th and completes May 29th. An A-Star helicopter will take four anglers, plus two professional Steelhead guides, on the fishing adventure of a lifetime over 30,000 square miles of coastal wilderness, with an abundance of pristine rivers. Your opportunity to catch wild Steelhead, Dolly Varden char, and Cutthroat trout has just increased exponentially.
The culinary experience at Nimmo Bay has been described by some as "Almost Biblical" and by others as "Bombastic". Our breakfasts are worth waking up for and our evening meals are highlighted with fresh, local seafood. Our bread, pastries and ice creams are made in our own bakery. We can not guarantee that 100% of the calories have been removed, however, we can guarantee you will be completely satisfied. Special dietary needs can be easily accommodated. Make sure you specify these at the time of booking.
