Pelican
Bay Bonefish Club ,
Bahamas

Now
you can experience bone fishing at its very best on the extensive,
virtually untouched and remote flats of the northwest shore of Grand
Bahama Island
and enjoy all of the comforts and amenities of
luxury living at the same time.
Grand Bahama is about 90 miles long from east to west with flats,
island, keys and creeks along the entire north shore where Pelican
Bay accesses the central and western parts.
Explore
a wide variety of emerald clear waters and countless miles of weather
protected island shorelines and flats stretching more than 30 miles
from West End to the Grand Lucayan Waterway. Our fishery is situated
on the famous Little Bahama Bank which is well known for its large
bones and stretches north from the west end of the island all the
way to Walkers Key where it then turns southeast to encompass the
Abacos and finally joining our east end Keys. You will be lucky
to find a depth of more than 20 feet in that entire area!
Many
species of sport-fish abound including schools of large bonefish
as well as permit, tarpon, barracuda, jack, snapper and shark to
amply challenge the skills of both professional and novice fly anglers.
Our
bonefish are large and plentiful. Average size for bones in this
area is from 4 to 6 pounds with daily shots at fish approaching
and often exceeding double digit. This past March of 2001 saw a
13 pound potential fly caught women's world record bonefish landed
that was weighed before release. Had the fish been kept it would have exceeded the record by half a pound. Permit average in the
20-pound range and have been caught to over 30 pounds. The largest
caught on a fly recently was 38 pounds and several are seen over
40 pounds each year! Barracuda range from 5 pounds to 5 feet in
length.
The
guides at Pelican Bay are very experienced and being keen fly fishers
themselves they are very much in tune with the more intricate skills
needed in hosting fly fisherman. All our guides come from well respected
bonefishing backgrounds. Two of the guides, Tommy and Carl, are
the sons of the legendary Bahamian guide Bonefish Foley and Ted
Cooper is the middle brother of a well known trio of Grand Bahama
guides.
These
professional guides are dedicated to making your fishing adventure
both productive and enjoyable and will tailor your fishing days
to individual preferences. Trained professionals will help perfect
your fly-casting techniques while on the beautiful flats of the
Bahamas, if desired.
16'
Maverick Mirage flats boats powered by 90 HP Yamaha motors and equipped
to US Coast Guard standards hurry you to your tight line destinations
daily. All guides are also equiped with cellular phones as well
as VHF radios and are able to react as quickly as humanely possible
in the very unlikely event that a guest should need assistance.
For
family members and others not into fishing the entire week, activities
abound within walking distance from your room at Pelican Bay. On
Grand Bahama there are 5 championship golf courses, glass bottom
boat excursions, some of the best scuba and snorkeling in the Bahamas,
tennis, duty free shopping, eco tours, sea kayaking, a full variety
of watersports and of course lounging on the beach or poolside is
always close at hand. Within just a couple minutes stroll of your
room is also a wealth of night-life including 2 casinos, over 20
restaurants and bars with evening island entertainment and dancing.
Pelican
Bay Bonefishing not only accomodates the experienced bonefisher
but also those individuals that wish to provide activities for their
non angling companions with the comfort of knowing that no compromise
has been made with the quality of their fishing.
