Abaco Lodge on the Marls



Abaco is a collection of islands that encompasses more than 120 miles from northernmost Walker's Caye, to southernmost Hole in the Wall. The land mass is roughly 650 square miles, with a population of about 10,000 people and is approximately 200 miles east of Palm Beach, Florida.

Abaco Lodge provides an intense fishing program combined with beautiful, waterfront accommodations. The lodge features 10 deluxe rooms, each with air conditioning, ceiling fans, private bathrooms, and t.v., accommodating both couples and individuals. You will fly into Ft. Lauderdale where you will then board your private charter flight to Abaco. The flight takes about an hour, and will put you in Sandy Point near the lodge. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by your hosts, Monique and Ricardo Burrows, owners and operators of Rickmon Bonefish Lodge. They will see you to your room, help you get settled, and discuss plans for your trip with you.

Your fishing day begins with breakfast in the well appointed restaurant. Continental breakfast items combined with hot entrees like pancakes or bacon and eggs will help you start your day focused on fishing. Your head guide is Ricardo Burrows himself, who has lived and fished the waters around Sandy Point for many years. The guides are locals with great eyes for spotting fish, a warm demeanor, and are always enthusiastic about the success of the guests. Lunch is also provided by the lodge and is enjoyed on the boat where ever you might be. Dinner at the lodge is served with unique Bahamian cuisine such as fresh fish and vegetables and Conch chowder.

The Bahamas offers great fishing opportunities for both numbers and size of bonefish. Average sized "bones" in this area are 3-6 pounds with larger fish very common. Other species of fish include permit, barracuda and jacks, all of which offer excellent challenge on the fly rod.

There are 50 miles of uninhabited coastline from Sandy Point up to cooper Town. The flats are beautiful white sand with some turtle grass. You will find opportunities to both wade the firmer flats and fish from the boat on some of the softer ones.
At the end of the day, relaxing on the expansive deck back at the lodge enjoying a cool beverage will be just the ticket to prep you for the next day of fishing. Abaco is dream destination for many people with its beautiful, secluded beaches and cayes. The warm hospitality of the Abaconians makes this Bahamas destination one that you should certainly investigate.
