Patagonia Anglers, Argentina

Located at the heart of the Nahuel Huapi National Park and 45 minutes from Bariloche, Fonck Lake is one of the most spectacular sight seeing places in this region. This is perhaps our favorite lake to guide due to the remote location and incredible brook trout fishing. Sight casting with dry flies cruising rainbows and browns that average 18 inches is amazing but throwing streamers can produce brown trout as large as 28 inches.

The Hess Lake is located within the Nahuel Huapi National Park, an hour drive south of Bariloche and is connected with the Fonck Lake via the Quieto River. This lake has excellent fishing for brown and brook trout, however, strong rainbows provide most of the action. Here, there is almost always an incredible hatch of large caddis, mayflies and various other insects. Surface takes are usually very aggressive. The lake forms channels similar to English chalk streams where the water flows from the lake. These stream like conditions are excellent for nymphing as well as delicate dry fly presentations.

The Rio Manso is one of the most scenic rivers in Patagonia. It features a wide variety of fishing conditions that will suit preferences of all fly anglers. The local inhabitants thrive healthily in the unpolluted and pristine waters of this river which presents the right habitat for strong fighting fish. On the Manso, you'll find fishing structure of all sorts: undercut banks, sunken logs, drop-offs, meandering channels, weedy river-bottoms, overhanging trees, big lakes, small lakes, pristine stream water, rock formations, rapids, waterfalls, and classic pools.

We highly recommend an emergency evacuation membership for this trip. It costs well over $100,000 to be air lifted to a safe US hospital from many parts of the world. These services will not be covered by general travel insurance or medical insurance. We use GLOBAL RESCUE.
